DES helps bring free Wi-Fi to Pittsburgh's Larimer neighborhood Dagostino Electronic Services mounted wireless antennas in PIttsburgh's Larimer neighborhood to bring residents free wireless internet. Sep 7, 2017 PITTSBURGH — Dagostino Electronic Services, Inc. recently worked with Missouri-based Velociti, Inc. to help bring free wireless internet to Pittsburgh’s Larimer neighborhood. DES crews mounted wireless antennas in the area last week. The antennas will eventually make up a network covering about 30 percent of Larimer and bordering sections of East Liberty, according to an article published last year on TribLive.com . Residents will have access to wireless high-speed Internet both inside and outside their homes. DES is proud to bring connectivity to more Pittsburghers! Read more about the project at TribLive.com . DES at the 2014 STEM Summit Dagostino Electronic Services exhibited at the 2014 STEM Summit at the Carnegie Science Center. Aug 29, 2014 PITTSBURGH — Yesterday, Dagostino Electronic Services exhibited at the 2014 STEM Summit at the Carnegie Science Center. We met with a lot of educators and innovators who are all trying to increase technology in schools. This year’s STEM Summit was designed to allow educators, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and innovators of all types to come together and learn about real solutions to enhance teacher professional development, encourage student engagement, and provide learning opportunities in traditional and non-traditional environments. There were 14 presentations, each lasting no more than seven minutes. This allowed the audience to have a diverse learning experience with as much information as possible. DES sells and installs multimedia technologies associated with digital learning and cyber applications. We do everything from video conferencing to digital whiteboards to streaming and store and capture technologies and more. In security, we have the latest technologies to keep students and staff safe including door access control systems and IP cameras. For all of those technologies you have to have a strong network infrastructure, which our staff can design, install and maintain. Now Read These! - Genetec Unifies Security at Central Valley School District
Genetec Unifies Security at Central Valley School District In this testimonial, see how the Genetec Unified Security Platform solved security inefficiencies for Central Valley School District. May 1, 2024 Central Valley School District serves 2,400 students and employs over 300 staff members. On any given day, there could be 5,000 people entering the school property. The district’s security footprint is similarly sprawling: 150 wireless door locks, 80 exterior wireless access doors, and 250 cameras cover four separate campuses. Much like many other school districts, the IT department manages security technology — but with their limited staffing, this proved to be a challenge. On a typical school day, there are constant security tasks that are intensively time-consuming. For example, a kid gets into an altercation and the principal requests footage of the incident. Now the security operator must sift through hours of video footage, locate the incident, and figure out how to extract and share a huge video file with relevant parties. Or perhaps, a door alarm goes off in another building. The security operator gets a call and then must walk over to investigate the cause, only to find out that it was likely a teacher who walked out of an alarmed exit. Once again, the time it requires to sift through camera footage and identify the errant teacher, simply to request that they don’t repeat the offense, just isn’t feasible. Then there are the administrative tasks that are similarly time-consuming. A staff member leaves the district. Now the security operator must deactivate their access within each of the disparate security systems. Lastly, of course, security technology must also effectively manage crisis situations. In an emergency, every minute is precious. The quicker the information can be corralled and communicated to relevant parties, the quicker and more effective the incident response. Overseeing the efficiency of all these systems is District technology director, Ed Eimiller. As Ed explains his decision to unify security under Genetec, “With limited IT staffing, the ability to execute all your security functions within a single control system makes all the sense in the world.” The Genetec system unified the school’s access control, video management and active directory into a single platform. Tasks that required logging in and out of multiple systems are now seamless. Once a new staff member gets credentialed in Active Directory, they instantly have all the preset access permissions assigned to their staffing profile. Mostly, Ed appreciates the mapping interface. Security operators can intuitively zoom into specific zones on the map, and capture access reports and camera footage. Plus, being a unified system, Genetec simplifies incident management and turn hours of evidence investigation into mere minutes of filter selections and verifications. In the case of an emergency, Genetec allows for immediate lockdown or unlock states as needed, providing real-time updates on door statuses to support quick decision-making. With remote access capabilities, local first responders can see the same maps, door states, and cameras as the district's IT staff, ensuring a swift response during critical situations. Ed is quick to attribute the success of the Genetec deployment to Central Valley’s longstanding partnership with DES. A complex solution can sound stellar on paper, but if it doesn’t ease the challenge on the ground, then it hasn’t solved the problem. DES’s ability to tailor the Genetec platform so that the district could take advantage of an enterprise solution while ensuring ease of operation was key to success — and the reason why Ed stands behind his two-decade relationship with DES. Mar 15, 2022 As technology evolved over the last four decades, so has Pittsburgh... and DES. But one fact has remained constant: DES has consistently focused on how to infuse technology into businesses to improve their business outcomes. In the late 1980s, DES teamed up with IBM and worked on creating a unified network for Carnegie Mellon University, allowing its students, faculty, and staff to connect. In 2020, DES utilizes Li-Fi, a cutting-edge system that uses light to transmit data. Read the full article here from BreakGround Magazine - it's worth it! Now Read These! - DES updates resource room at Pittsburgh Technology Council
DES updates resource room at Pittsburgh Technology Council When the Pittsburgh Technology Council (PTC) decided to update their technology capabilities in their conference room they turned to Dagostino Electronic Services, Inc. May 20, 2013 PITTSBURGH — When the Pittsburgh Technology Council (PTC) decided to update their technology capabilities in their conference room they turned to Dagostino Electronic Services, Inc. Integrating multimedia technology was only part of the process while renovating their entire space at 2000 Technology Drive along the Monongahela River off Second Avenue in Pittsburgh. They wanted to make the council more available to members for all of their needs. For all the benefits the PTC already offered, they believed adding state of the art technology in their resource room would take the appeal to join the council to another level! The updated resource room provides the council a functioning room for their innovative staff to meet on a large scale and do what they do best: come up with incredible ideas to shape the technology industry in southwest Pennsylvania. “The resource room has greatly expanded our ability to serve our members and the benefits we provide to them,” said Audrey Russo, CEO of Pittsburgh Technology Council. “Since installation, we have been able to host press conferences, board meetings, and trainings – none of which were possible without Dagostino’s technology.” The room is also available to council members as a tangible resource to hold important meetings. The PTC has more than1,400 organizations as members totaling over 25,000 individuals. Members who use the resource room PEAL Center “As a small non-profit, the PEAL Center relies on the Pittsburgh Technology Council Resource Room as the perfect place to hold our board meetings. The technology in the room is top notch. We are able to bring together board members who are physically present with members who are participating using GoToMeeting. The very large projection screen makes it possible for us to project the documents we are working from and keep everyone focused on issues being discussed. The sound system in the room is excellent. Both a board member with a significant hearing loss and remote participants are able to hear clearly and follow the discussion of members from around the board table. The excellent internet service supports the GoToMeeting connection allowing us to virtually bring together board members from across the state.” BlueTree Allied Angels & BlueTree Capitol Group “BlueTree Allied Angels and BlueTree Capital Group are very grateful for the state of art technical capabilities housed at the Pittsburgh Technology Council. We use the resource room monthly and have been easily able to connect, project and enhance our meeting presentations. We’ve even been able to connect those who can’t attend in person. Most importantly, it is very easy to operate, which means we can always start on time!” Catalyst Connection “We have used the Pittsburgh Technology Council’s Resource Room several times to host meetings and events with our clients and stakeholders. The PowerPoint presentations were clear and visible from any seat in the room and the audio/visual quality has been flawless. This location represents Catalyst Connection well when we need to have a professional venue for occasions.” Now Read These!
