Arnold Palmer Regional Airport doubles capacity with security system upgrade Dagostino Electronic Services, Inc. upgraded the security camera system at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport, doubling the airport's monitoring capabilities to help keep the public safe. Sep 21, 2017 LATROBE, Pa. – Security is of utmost importance in the airline industry and it’s no different at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe, about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. Arnold Palmer Regional Airport is located in Latrobe, about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. Last year, Dagostino Electronic Services, Inc. (DES) upgraded the airport’s security cameras, the first upgrade to the system in 12 years. DES designed and installed the solution, made possible with products from Genetec , Axis Communications , Samsung and Alcatel-Lucent , among others, and was chosen out of seven prospective integrators. “After comparing apples to apples with all the vendors, pricewise and ease of use and the system setup itself, we decided to go with DES,” said Moe Haas, public safety director and fire chief for the Westmoreland County Airport Authority, which operates the airport that offers commercial service through Spirit Airlines to destinations in Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Moe Haas is the public safety director and fire chief for the Westmoreland County Airport Authority. The state-of-the-art system doubles the airport’s capabilities throughout the airfield. Tracking lost luggage is now easier, as is monitoring vehicles as they travel about the airport. The backend of the system is easily laid out in two secure areas. Cameras are mounted both in and out of the terminal and strategically placed around the airfield. Working with DES was a perfect fit for Arnold Palmer. “The personnel, from the installers to the management, really helped us in engineering and putting together this system,” Haas said. “It works well for us at the airfield.” He concluded “Security is very important in our industry itself. We want to make sure the public has a very safe and enjoyable journey on our flights out of Arnold Palmer Regional Airport.” Security Dashboard at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport Data Rack at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport Security Camera at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport View From Security Camera at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport Security Dashboard at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport Now Read These! • Don't let cybersecurity be forgotten - create a security plan today

Don't let cybersecurity be forgotten - create a security plan today We know that security is the top IT priority for most businesses. But when reality sets in, it?s often an afterthought. Can you afford to wait? Jun 25, 2019 A Florida city agreed to pay hackers $600,000 after a malware attack froze their computer systems. Hackers encrypted city records, disabled email systems, and caused problems with digital payroll and 911 systems. While the FBI doesn’t support paying the ransom to hackers, many businesses do in order to get their information back. Hackers often attack common and known vulnerabilities in computer systems and one of the easiest ways into your network is through an employee. All it takes is a single click on an email for the hacker to gain entrance into your system. They may lay dormant for months, tracking your business, only to attack at your busiest time. We know that security is the top IT priority for most businesses. But when reality sets in, it’s often an afterthought. Can you afford to wait? The U.S. National Cyber Security Alliance found that 60 percent of small companies go out of business within six months of a cyber attack. Not surprising since the average cost of a malware attack is $2.4 million. Finding the right secure networking solution is your path to confidence. DES offers a free cyber threat assessment that helps you better understand your security risks, productivity, utilization, and performance. The report focuses on: which application vulnerabilities are being used to attack your network which malware/botnets were detected what phishing attacks are making it through your defenses which devices are “at risk” for security breach probability which peer-to-peer, social media, instant messaging, and other apps are running for application visibility control what spam, newsletters or adult content may be bothering your email what is your throughput, session, and bandwidth usage requirements during peak hours Now Read These! • Designing for Technology Seminar at Heinz Field

Designing for Technology Seminar at Heinz Field Over thirty architects, engineers, spec writers, facility directors and project managers gathered in the Press Box Dining Room in Heinz Field for a Continuing Education morning. Nov 4, 2021 Over thirty architects, engineers, spec writers, facility directors and project managers gathered in the Press Box Dining Room in Heinz Field for a Continuing Education morning. With magnificent views over the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers, guests sampled a continental breakfast while watching the wintery mist billow over the glittering waves. The first presenter was Dave Priest from Assa Abloy, the global leader in access solutions. His seminar was a detailed overview of the continuum of door opening solutions. Mechanical locks – those with a cylinder and a metal key – were invented in the 1800’s and haven’t changed significantly since. While cost-effective to spec, the ongoing costs in terms of security risks or change-outs are huge. Weighing the cost with the benefit, Dave showcased the variety of electronic options on the market today – ranging from wired or wireless electronic access control to Intelligent keys, where the data is on the key rather than relayed to the network via the lock. Of note was the cost savings of digital electricity – or Power over Ethernet. These power sources use a fraction of the energy, which benefits both the environment and the bottom line. After an early lunch of wraps, fresh salad and chef’s choice of desserts, guests took to their seats for the second presentation – Advanced Lighting for Smart Indoor Environments. Shaquinta Morgan of Signify (formally Philips Lighting) explained the network requirements for a smart lighting system and described the various applications of networked lighting. Lighting can be programmed to regulate with ambient lighting conditions and the circadian rhythm of building occupants. People counting, occupancy data and asset tracking are other interoperable capabilities. Wrapping up the learning portion, Bob Dagostino , president of DES, facilitated a thought-provoking discussion about lighting as the next frontier of telecommunications. Li-Fi is the transmission of data through light waves. Already deployed in military applications, Li-Fi is steadily being developed for commercial utilization. Applications could soon include commercial airliners providing internet access to passenger devices through seat lighting, healthcare environments customizing lights to optimize healthcare outcomes and, of course, office environments taking advantage of lighting to promote sustainability and a competitive environment. For architects and engineers, understanding lighting beyond illumination enhances and broadens the possibilities for design. The highlight of the morning was the thoroughly engaging tour of Heinz Field! Starting out from the Press Box with its bird’s eye view over the field, Bob Dagostino pointed out the technology that impacts the gameday experience – the cameras, the Wi-Fi access points, the point-of-sale connectivity and the sound system. Moving on to the field itself, guests were treated to the sight of the DES logo emblazoned on the jumbo scoreboards. Back in stadium, the tour treaded carefully around the Steelers locker room, circling the giant Steelers logo on the center floor. Tradition has it that no one – not even the players – treads on the logo. After a walk around the Hall of Fame, the morning was over. DES plans to arrange more quality continuing education events. Technology keeps challenging us to boost our facilities, business process and connectivity infrastructure to be on pace with innovation. As a technology integrator, DES has a passion to share these ideas with likeminded professionals in the Pittsburgh community. As one participant noted in a review, “This was a fantastic event with great, knowledgeable speakers. Looking forward to the next one!” Now Read These! • South Fayette Fourth-Graders Design Smart City!

South Fayette Fourth-Graders Design Smart City! Budding electrical engineers, inspired by DES technology, design a smart city. May 7, 2024 Imagine a city designed and built by fourth-grade students! That's exactly what happened at South Fayette School District as the kids — inspired by technology provided by Dagostino Electronic Services — turned their classroom into a smart city of the future. These budding engineers stepped into the shoes of electrical engineers and put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test. The project began with an exploration of the roles of electricians which provided students with a solid understanding of circuitry fundamentals. With the introduction of Hummingbird robotics, the students worked collaboratively in groups to design and program a bustling city that catered to community needs. They meticulously wired their structures for power and employed servos to add movement and dynamism. To deepen their understanding, the students watched educational videos provided by DES, gaining insight into the pivotal role of telecommunications in supporting infrastructure. Empowered by this knowledge, they creatively identified ways in which DES technology could be deployed in the functionality of their city creations. The hospital needs security, the shopping mall would definitively have automatic doors, the library requires smart lighting — and how could you have a fast-food restaurant without Wi-Fi? Not to mention the new mayor of City Hall who needs computers to execute their civil duties! We are amazed by the creativity and ingenuity displayed by these fourth graders! Thank you to STEAM teacher, Samantha Edkins, for bringing this smart city to life. We can't wait to see what these future engineers will accomplish next.
