- DES designs highly technical yet hidden audio video solution for Heinz Endowments
DES designs highly technical yet hidden audio video solution for Heinz Endowments Dagostino Electronic Services designed and installed a multimedia solution for the Heinz Endowments that mirrored their vision for a functional and sophisticated space. Dec 6, 2017 PITTSBURGH — When leaders at the Heinz Endowments were looking to install the audio and video communication technology for their new conference space in downtown Pittsburgh they turned to Dagostino Electronic Services, Inc. (DES). Their vision was for the technology to coexist within the large, divisble space; have easy accessibility and visibility when required, but hidden from view otherwise. Working closely with The Heinz Endowments team, the general contractor, and the architect, DES designed and installed a solution that mirrored the vision. LED displays were mounted on pivot-swivel ceiling mounts that adjust for easy viewing access regardless of the room configuration. The monitors and web cameras retract into the ceiling when they’re not in use. The space is divisible by four, but rooms can be utilized in any configuration. The system’s room controls were programmed so the technology works seamlessly no matter the configuration. Each room was also equipped with assistive listening hearing loops which deliver intelligible sound directly to individuals with t-coil hearing aids and cochlear implants. Despite the complexity, the Crestron iPad room control interface is simple to use, and changes can be made quickly. “Folks coming into any of these rooms, whether they are combining the rooms or not, can make a choice between whether they want a local presentation, an audio conference, a web conference and you can change these options on the fly,” satisfied users remarked. “You can be giving a local presentation and decide you want to involve someone via audio or via web and press that button and bring those outside folks into your presentation.” “With all the complexity of these rooms, what we strive to do is make the technology transparent and that’s really the key today,” added DES System Integrator Bob Greenhow, a Certified Technology Specialist with more than 20 years of experience designing and installing communication systems. The video technology is also universal; it can be used with any application-based video conferencing software such as Skype, BlueJeans and Google Hangouts. Users can access the video conferencing providers of their choice. In addition to the divisible space, DES recently updated the Three Rivers Room at the Heinz Endowments with plans to complete several additional spaces in the coming months. The audio, video and room control solutions were installed with products from Crestron and Polycom . About the Heinz Endowments The Heinz Endowments seeks to help our region thrive as a whole and just community, and through that work to model solutions to major national and global challenges. We are based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where we concentrate on advancing a sustainable future for our community and planet, successful learning outcomes for young people and their families, and a culture of engaged creativity for all our citizens. - Cybersecurity Toolbox
Cybersecurity Toolbox The tools that we use to build a dynamic and comprehensive cybersecurity solution. Jun 11, 2024 At DES, we model our cybersecurity recommendations after the NIST Cybersecurity Framework . This is a set of guidelines developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to help organizations manage and reduce cybersecurity risks. The framework consists of five core functions: Identify: Understand your organization's capabilities to manage cybersecurity risk. Protect: Implement a cybersecurity posture that safeguards your people, systems and assets. Detect: Have solutions in place to monitor and expose cybersecurity events. Respond: Have a plan to investigate and contain an attack. Recover: Repair and restore capabilities after a cybersecurity incident. Within each of these domains, DES helps you choose cybersecurity products and solutions that give you the right defenses for your unique needs. Here are a selection of the tools that we use to build a dynamic, user-friendly and comprehensive cybersecurity solution. Identify Cybersecurity Assessment & Diagnostic: Our first step is to analyze your current state. We provide a complimentary cybersecurity scan which will identify your current areas of vulnerabilities. Asset Inventory: Do you have a systematic listing of all your connected assets? Can you quickly see each asset’s security status and user authorizations? Our asset management tools help identify and manage all assets connected to your network, reducing the risk of unauthorized access or unpatched vulnerabilities. Risk Assessment: A risk assessment must be conducted internally, within the executive and legal stakeholders of your organization. A thorough risk assessment identifies potential threats, vulnerabilities, and their potential impact on your operations. Data Classification: Categorize your data based on its sensitivity and importance. This helps in prioritizing protection measures and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations. Protect Advanced/Next-Generation Firewalls: These are enhanced firewalls that offer advanced threat detection and prevention, including features like deep packet inspection and intrusion detection. Identity Protection and Authentication: Tools that secure user identities and control access to networks, often using multi-factor authentication (MFA) so that only authorized users can access company materials or classified files. Vulnerability Scanning: A suite of dedicated tools can regularly scan your network, software and systems for known vulnerabilities. This proactive approach helps in identifying potential weak points before they can be exploited. Training: Ultimately, your cybersecurity strategy is as good as the operators managing the systems. When DES designs and deploys systems, we only walk out of the job once your operators know how to use the systems. Detect Endpoint Protection: Endpoint protection protects individual devices, such as laptops, mobile phones and tablets, from cyber threats like malware. EDR is essential for any organization with many BYOD devices Streamlined Threat Hunting: A combination of AI-based, human, and behavioral network analysis are designed to look for signs of malicious activity, trigger automatic investigations and guided playbooks that accelerate triage and response. Managed Detection & Response (MDR): Sometimes you don’t have the in-house resources to provide the attention and vigilance that cybersecurity requires. A MDR service provides continuous monitoring and response to cyber threats. It combines technology and human expertise to rapidly identify and neutralize threats before they can cause significant damage. Security Operations Center (SOC) for Around the Clock (24/7/365) Monitoring, Detection, and Response: For more intensive and continuous detection, we recommend a SOC. This is a centralized unit that deals with security issues on an organizational and technical level. It ensures that potential security incidents are correctly identified, analyzed, defended, investigated, and reported. Respond Incident Response Plan: Develop a comprehensive plan that outlines steps to take during a cybersecurity incident. Forensic Tools: Implement tools that can help investigate and analyze security breaches. Communication Systems: Establish secure communication channels for coordinating response efforts during an incident. Recover Backup and Recovery Systems: Implement robust backup solutions to ensure data can be restored quickly after an incident. Post-Incident Analysis Tools: Use tools to analyze what happened and improve future responses. Business Continuity Planning: Develop strategies to maintain critical operations during and after a cybersecurity incident. Within this framework, we work with you to design a cybersecurity strategy that meets best practices and is affordable and manageable for you to operate. Now Read These!
