PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle is a grocery store chain with more than 200 stores in western Pennsylvania, Ohio, north central West Virginia and Maryland, and has been a customer of Dagostino Electronic Services, Inc. for more than a decade.

Dave Karem, Business Solutions Manager at Giant Eagle, is responsible for implementing technology at the company’s headquarters in Fox Chapel.
After a successful overhaul of the company’s executive board room in 2010, complete with full audio and video conferencing capabilities, Karem looked to DES to begin upgrading the technology in their dozens of smaller conference rooms and huddle spaces across the four buildings at their headquarters.
Giant Eagle wanted a simple solution that could be used easily by the company’s 1,500 corporate employees and the vendors who frequently come in to show and pitch new products to sell in Giant Eagle stores.
Ultimately, they decided on Crestron’s AirMedia wireless presentation technology solution for the rooms with a 55-, 65- or 75-inch ultra HD monitor in each to compliment.
“It’s a very clean installation,” Karem said of AirMedia, adding, “It [allows] our team members to wirelessly connect and present content, to be able to get up to speed with their meeting very quickly, and it was a very, very cost-effective solution relative to the other options.”
And the technology has been very well received.
Karem said, “Our initial install was about 42 rooms and since that install has been completed we’re getting monthly requests to expand the technology footprint.”
The number now exceeds 80 rooms and the upgrades continue. As one room is completed, an older, outdated room is generally added to the schedule.
“The upgraded technology gives us a far more modern workplace,” Karem said. “It’s making the meetings far more efficient.”
Karem called the process of working with DES, from the account manager to the project manager and support team, “seamless.”
Stephanie Beard, an IT analyst for Giant Eagle who works closely with the technicians on site, complimented DES’ professionalism and politeness.
“Everything always goes smoothly,” she added. “I’ve worked with other techs [at other companies] and it’s never that smooth.”
“Dagostino is a company I’ll reach out to regularly if I have audio visual needs and need some help from industry experts,” added Karem. “There’s been a number of resources available from Dagostino from installers who can quickly get something done to technicians that can assist us with reprogramming to meet changing needs.”
He continued, “I’d recommend Dagostino primarily because of the wealth of solutions and breadth of solutions they’re able to provide. They can provide everything from a very simple installation to something very complex like a multifaceted room with blind control, lighting; all sorts of technology.”
In addition to the conference spaces, DES upgraded the audio and video at select Giant Eagle retail locations and warehouses.
