Funding is available each year for K-12 schools, municipalities and police departments in Pennsylvania through targeted grants from the Office for Safe Schools.
Public school districts, charter schools, cyber charter schools and area vocational-technical schools can apply for grants for funding for security-related technology and equipment and to pay for programs that address school violence.
Grants are also available to provide the funds necessary to put school police officers (SPOs) or school resource officers (SROs) in schools across the state.

SPECIFICS & GUIDELINES
Up to $25,000 available for the following security-related technology:
- Surveillance equipment, i.e. cameras
- Electronic locksets, card readers, deadbolts and theft control devices
- Student, staff and electronic visitor management systems
- Special emergency communications equipment including radios
- Protective lighting
- Metal detectors
Up to $20,000 for various programs that address and help prevent school violence.
School Police Officer Grants
Up to $40,000 to add a school police officer (SPO) who will maintain, improve or enhance the safety, security and climate of the school.
School Resource Officer Grants
Up to $60,000 for a school resource officer (SRO) who will maintain, improve or enhance the safety, security and climate of the school.
Schools must register with eGrants at egrants.pa.gov to apply.

Grants will be awarded in September 2018. The funding must be spent by June 30, 2019.
There is no guarantee of funding. All grants are competitive and reviewed and scored based on set criteria detailed at education.pa.gov.
Q: Can schools apply for grants every year?
A: Yes. Even if a school was awarded funding the previous year they can apply for the same grant the following year.
Q: Can schools can apply for more than one grant at a time?
A: Yes. Equipment, program, SRO and SPO grants are four separate grants and schools can apply for all four grants in the same year if they choose to do so.
Q: Can a police department or municipality and a school can apply for an SRO grant the same year?
