Safe Schools Targeted Grants

Funding is available each year for K-12 schools, municipalities and police departments in Pennsylvania through targeted grants from the Office for Safe Schools.

Private and public K-12 schools can apply for grants for funding for security-related technology and equipment and to pay for programs that address school violence.

Grants are also available to provide the funds necessary to put school police officers (SPOs) or school resource officers (SROs) in schools across the state.


For K-12 Schools:

Equipment Grants

Up to $25,000 available for the following security-related technology:

  • Metal detectors
  • Protective lighting
  • Surveillance equipment
  • Special emergency communications equipment including radios
  • Electronic locksets, deadbolts and theft control devices and training in the use of the
    security-related technology
  • Student, staff and visitor swipe-card identification systems

Program Grants

Up to $20,000 for various programs that address and help prevent school violence.

School Police Officer Grants

Up to $40,000 to add a school police officer (SPO) who will maintain, improve or enhance the safety, security and climate of the school.

School Resource Officer Grants

Up to $60,000 for a school resource officer (SRO) who will maintain, improve or enhance the safety, security and climate of the school.

Grants will be awarded in September 2018. The funding must be spent by June 30, 2019.
