Construction Business Development Manager

We are seeking an entrepreneurial candidate with a construction background, and the ability to develop relationships and drive additional opportunities and sales. Contributing strategically to our continued growth in this industry, the Construction Business Development Manager will leverage their knowledge of estimating, unions, and construction to seek opportunities for voice, data, security, multimedia, and structured cabling projects.

 

Position Responsibilities 

  • Develop relationships with electrical contractors, construction managers, general contractors, architectural firms, industry influencers, and key strategic partners.
  • Create and recognize selling opportunities by utilizing industry and market knowledge.
  • Proactively provide consultative selling while providing technology solutions to potential clients.
  • Align selling strategies with business and organizational objectives.
  • Prepare, deliver, and follow through with sales proposals/presentations to close the sale.
  • Help define and develop project scopes, goals, expectations, and deliverables.
  • Assist with the coordination of analyzing the best use of resources, labor, equipment and vendors for jobs and installations.
  • Coordinate and deliver project completion by meeting or exceeding budget, timeline, and quality expectations.

 

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years management and business development experience in a construction environment, including working with union personnel
  • General knowledge and experience with electronics services industry (Voice, Data, Security, Multimedia, and/or Structured Cabling)
  • Business acumen with analytical and negotiating skills.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and CRM software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative with high attention to detail.

Project Manager

The role of the Project Manager is to plan, execute, and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. The Project Manager will also define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle, and ensure all aspects of assigned projects are met or exceeded.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Define and develop project scope, goals, expectations and deliverables, and review with customer for approval; Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential problems, and devise contingency plans.
  • Perform site survey and walkthrough with customer before and after each project.
  • Determine invoicing milestones and verify payment submittal process with customer; provide accurate and timely data to the accounting department.
  • Effectively communicate with customers throughout each project by ensuring the timely delivery of feedback, creating and providing progress reports, executing change order requests, facilitating customer training requirements, and by providing any other project documentation as requested.
  • Identify, track, and manage project dependencies across project team.
  • Work with Systems Engineers to develop Method Of Procedure (MOP) for cutover of critical components.
  • Coordinate with purchasing and inventory control personnel to ensure the timely sourcing of all necessary tools and materials.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise project team and contractors, and influence them to take positive actions and accountability for their assigned work.
  • Ensure all labor requirements are met, including clearances for customer locations, certified payroll, prevailing wage, etc.
  • Follow established project closeout process upon completion of project; conduct project postmortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful/unsuccessful project elements.
  • Facilitate safety meetings and ensure OSHA requirements are met.
  • Develop and utilize best practices and techniques for project execution and management.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

  • Individual may occasionally be required to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Incumbent will be required to use a computer with keyboard, telephone or handheld mobile device for extended periods of time, and office machinery as needed.
  • Incumbent must be able to read, see, hear, and speak.

 

Experience Required

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience working the technology industry; previous experience with project management is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and CRM software (preferably SugarCRM).
  • Experience with Microsoft Project is preferred.
  • General knowledge of electronic services industry (Voice, Data, Security, Multimedia, and/or Structured Cabling) is a plus.
  • Previous experience in Purchasing is a plus.
